Privacy

All the information you add in your profile is private and kept confidential, except for your member photo and Your Idea Worth Spreading. Other African TEDx event organisers will be able to contact you through the newsletter. You choose on your profile whether you are subscribed to newsletters or not.

Speakers

All speakers must sign a physical copy of the Speaker Permission Release form before they can speak. It is a TED requirement. No commercial, religious or political talks are permitted.

We are very strict on time. Speakers must speak within their allotted minutes.

Although we have great faith in our speakers and trust them to talk as agreed, we cannot guarantee that they will show up to speak. Anything could happen, causing them to cancel. In the unlikely event of a speaker canceling, we reserve the right to fill their slot with another speaker/s.

All talks are filmed and sent to TED. If a speaker's talk catches their attention, anything can happen. We hope wonderful things will occur and we cannot guarantee anything. TEDxJohannesburg talks will be placed on the web within the time period that it takes our technical sponsors to edit and upload them.

Audience

All rights are reserved. The audience is comprised of invited people. Once invited, your seat is only considered reserved once you have paid for it. Payment is non-refundable. We choose people based on their ability to do something with the ideas they hear and see on stage and the number of seats available. Since we would love to invite every TED enthusiast and we know that inevitably some people will be disappointed, should we be licensed to hold another TEDxJohannesburg, those people will be first on the list to invite.
TEDxJohannesburg is a full day event and speakers and audience members are strongly encouraged to stay for the full event. This will enable you to get the full value of TEDx.

Sponsors

All sponsors must be approved by TED before they can be approached. So, if you want to sponsor us, we have to check with TED first. If you sell tobacco, alcohol, weapons or do something that you'd like to green wash through being a sponsor of a TEDx, they'll probably say no.

TEDxJohannesburg Event

TEDXJohannesburg is a non-profit event.

In the extremely unlikely off chance that the event needs to be cancelled or postponed, we reserve the right to postpone or cancel the event for whatever reason. If this should occur, we will return any monies paid to reserve seats. However, we do expect it to happen and we are working hard towards a fun, enlighting event that leaves a legacy in its wake!
