2010 TEDxJohannesburg: TraseThis

In 2007 I worked as an intern at the Market Photo Workshop in Newtown, Johannesburg, after completing their Foundation Photography course. On a day where I had very little to do, I sat in the office and paged through the Journals of Dan Eldon. I then walked into the course coordinator’s office and asked to apply for the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Program. From there my photography began to grow as more and more opportunities came my way. I was awarded the Tierney Fellowship Grant in 2008 which allowed me to produce a year-long documentary work and exhibit it in both Jo'burg and Cape Town. It has been the greatest platform for me. I was able to work with Mikhael Subotsky as a mentor throughout the project and draw on the skills and experience of some of the most well respected figures in South African photography.

I am now in the beginnings of establishing myself as a Freelance Photographer. I have set up a studio, doing portraiture, product shoots, architectural photography and portfolios. This is to fund as much volunteer work as I can possibly take on to build my NGO portfolio. It is growing, and so am I.

'll be the one running around with cameras and tripods and all manner of equipment. As a photographer who is nourished by people, their ideas, their humanity and all that they are capable of, I am proud to be documenting such an inspiring initiative.
