What would your talk at TEDxJohannesburg focus on?
The Universe is made up of Stories, not Bits and Atoms.
In a world where the supply of technology and stuff ( bits & atoms) exceeds the demand and where nearly 3 billion people live on US$2 or less per day, The Broccoli Project uses the pioneering thinking of Eric von Hippel and Neil Gershenfeld to put forward the idea of using stories, existing frameworks, and technologies to address wicked problems such as HIV, poverty & hunger.

Brief biography
A qualified electrical engineer who lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa, MaZ has managed to combine his passion for technology with his desire to help create a better world for all through the creation of BroccoliSoft - a unique software and technology platform designed to, a) transparently manage the deployment of aid resources; and b) track, incentivise and reward participants who perform desired socially positive actions – in effect creating a “ rewards programme for the poor”.
In June 2009, The Broccoli Project placed second out of 24 countries and was lauded with the innovation with highest social value at the World Innovation Summit in Barcelona. The Broccoli Project has been nominated as a candidate for the 2010 class of WEF Technology Pioneers, notable recipients of this award include Google.
MaZ was listed in this year’s top 300 South Africans you need to take to Lunch. In September and by special invitation of the City of Cape Town, attended the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of New Champions in Dalian, China.
When not working long hours building creative solutions to the world’s problems, MaZ enjoys a hard game of Ultimate Frisbee on the beach.
