Sister Annah Mabunda is the Unit manager at Masakhane Crisis Centre. The core function of the centre is to manage survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Sister Annah ensures the smooth running of the service-stakeholder collaboration and private public partnerships. At the centre, she runs the in-service training of medical personnel, including doctors and nurses, to ensure that raped women are treated with respect and without judgement.
Sister Annah is also deeply involved in client care – debriefing, counselling, trauma containment, medical examination of survivors, collection of evidence and court attendance as expert witness.
To empower women, Sister Anna raises awareness at schools, churches and gatherings about their rights - to be treated with dignity and to reveal relevant pieces of legislature that women can use to protect themselves. Moreover, Sister Anna does home visits to check on the safety of children at risk, referred to place of safety through social worker assistance.
A member of a forum that deals with cases of sexual assault and domestic violence to lobby for justice for women, Sister Annah works closely with civil society groups such as People Opposing Women Abuse and Childline, as well as government departments - e.g. SAPS, Justice and Education.
