This is the official TEDx event for Johannesburg.

TEDxJohannesburg took place on 15 November at the Theatre on the Square. From 09h15 to 18h00, with the speaker order a mystery, every few minutes contained a surprise.

Our theme is Uplifting Communities. We chose this theme because we are all reliant on happy, healthy, functional communities for our own well being and happiness. The world is a global community. So is a country, a city, a town, a neighbourhood. Everyone belongs to more than one community. A community could be one of gender or profession, hobby or ability, religious or political leanings, association, society or club. TED is an example of a global community comprised of members whose are geographically dispersed, yet share the intense desire to share ideas worth spreading.

What we are asking at TEDxJohannesburg is: How are your communities more vibrant, enlightened, uplifted or more positive, because you are within it? What ideas, actions or projects of yours have inspired, uplifted, empowered or positively changed communities that at first you did not belong to? What communities did you create and what galvanised you?

Speakers who honour us by choosing to take up that nomination will be considered for a possible TEDxJohannesburg 2010.

There are various other less formal and more intimate TEDx events happening within Gauteng and South Africa, which interested people can easily attend. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we'll keep you informed about them. TEDxJoburgNorth, TEDxNewtown and TEDxPretoria have all occurred, introducing TED to new people and inspiring them too!
